Our Name, Our Origin
The VARDIAN identity is rooted in the Old Norse word varde - the beacon fire lit to signal danger, guide allies, and secure the perimeter. These watchfires formed a rapid-alert network across the Viking world.
That same principle guides our work today: clarity, vigilance, readiness.
Fittingly, Varde is also the name of the Danish garrison city where both founders completed artillery officer training - the place where discipline, leadership, and operational precision were forged.
VARDIAN is built on a military foundation. Both founders - Thorbjørn Bahnsonand Jørgen Ahm Petersen- were trained as artillery officers in the Danish Army, where precision, discipline, and decisive action are not optional but expected. Today, we continue to serve as reserve officers, maintaining the mindset and readiness that shaped our careers.
Our experience ranges from operational planning and command responsibilities to industrial process optimisation, compliance engineering, and scaled manufacturing strategy. We understand both sides of the defence equation: the battlefield requirementsand the industrial systems needed to meet them.
VARDIAN functions as a small, agile unitsupported by a wider network of Nordic specialists - many of whom are also officers or defence-industry veterans. When a mission demands increased capacity or specific expertise, we mobilise the right specialists quickly and efficiently.
